Observation L1

Observation L1 is a VRChat world created as a submission to VRChat's Space Jam 2026 World Jam. The map is a pre-animated experience aboard a spacecraft navigating around space colonies located around the earth-sun Lagrange point L1.

I worked with a visual designer to create the spacecraft and the space colonies. All aspects of the map except the milky way texture, earth texture, and background audio were created by us.

The world features a pre-animated exterior to give the appearance of motion. This was achieved by motion capturing a simulated a flying object with mass with inputted thrust. The motion is then played into a system that reverses the position and rotation to move the background objects and rotate the skybox. The skybox rotation is achieved via a custom shader that accepts a quaternion as rotation.
